How Can I Expect My Neck Lift to Look Over Time?

In our modern era of video chats and selfies, you are probably acutely aware of how you look from all angles. As you age, gravity, muscle laxity, and collagen loss combine to cause excess neck fat, neck muscle sagging, and loose neck skin, which can affect your self-esteem and quality of life. If you’re tired of trying to hide your double chin, muscle banding, or “turkey wattle” with turtlenecks and scarves, it might be time to consider a surgical neck lift. What does this surgery include, and what benefits can you expect?

Your Neck Lift Procedure

A neck lift is an outpatient procedure performed while you are under twilight anesthesia. Dr. Indeyeva performs a deep necklift, where she addresses not only skin, but also deep neck fat, lax muscles, and even droopy salivary glands that can negatively affect the contour of the neck. This is a different and much more advanced approach from many other surgeons, who only tighten the skin. First, Dr. Indeyeva will make small, discreet incisions under your chin and behind your ears, in order to access the deep tissues of the neck. From there, she evaluates the patient’s unique anatomy and performs a customized set of techniques including trimming protruding muscle bands, tightening the neck muscles, and deep sculpting such as subplatysmal fat and even salivary glands.  She will then remove excess suture the incisions closed.

Typical side effects of a neck lift include swelling, bruising, tightness, and soreness around the neck and jawline. If you carefully follow all your post-surgical instructions – such as avoiding strenuous activities, smoking, alcohol, and excessive sun exposure – your recovery process should go smoothly, and your incisions should heal virtually unnoticeably. Dr. Indeyeva will evaluate your progress and let you know when you can resume your typical activities.

Long-Term Benefits of a Neck Lift

Many of Dr. Indeyeva’s neck lift patients enjoy their life-changing results so much that their only regret is not getting the surgery sooner. While everyone ages differently, based on genetics and lifestyle choices, your neck should look significantly younger for at least a decade following your neck lift procedure.

You can prolong your neck lift results over time by taking sensible steps like these.

  • Avoid excessive sun exposure, as UV rays can cause sun damage and premature aging. If you must go outside, apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 to all exposed skin.
  • Maintain healthy sleep hygiene and consistently get seven to nine hours of high-quality rest per night to give your body ample time to repair itself.
  • Don’t neglect your neck as part of your overall skin care routine.
  • Drink plenty of water throughout each day – hydrated cells are better at retaining collagen and elastin.
  • Exercise regularly, including a combination of cardio and weightlifting in your regimen.
  • Eat a balanced diet rich in fresh produce and whole, minimally processed foods.

Should You Consider Combining Treatments?

Depending on your concerns and desired results, you might want to have other cosmetic procedures performed simultaneously with your neck lift to further enhance your appearance. For example, many of Dr. Indeyeva’s patients opt to pair a neck lift with a facelift and eyelid or brow lift for a more comprehensive enhancement.
