Exploring Your Options
Thanks to innovations in skin resurfacing, patients have plenty of options to select from. While laser resurfacing is one of the most popular solutions, cutting edge treatments like stem cell recruitment facials offer patients an alternative path to beautiful skin. The length of recovery directly corresponds with the degree of improvement, such that the longer one takes to heal, the more remarkable the result. The results of surgical skin resurfacing are impressive and long-lasting.
Laser skin resurfacing is a form of facial rejuvenation that uses laser light energy to tighten skin, reduce fine lines, and improve skin tone.
This top procedure works by precisely applying laser light energy to targeted areas of the skin. Unlike other skin rejuvenation treatments, lasers can penetrate deeply into the skin column to remove aging, damaged skin cells and result in the production of new, healthy skin cells. In addition, this process stimulates collagen production. Collagen is critical to healthy cell development and skin rejuvenation. By a combination of these regenerative effects, laser resurfacing helps skin remodel itself from the inside out.
For patients with moderate wrinkles, acne, deep scarring, discoloration, or other noticeable signs of aging, ablative lasers are a more effective alternative. This technology works by eradicating aged, damaged skin cells while penetrating deep into the skin column to trigger the body’s natural healing response— collagen production. As new skin cells grow, they help fill the pits and creases left by acne scarring and wrinkles, ultimately resulting in a revived skin.
Most patients take up to two weeks to fully heal.
When the skin has an irregular or uneven texture from acne scarring or from previous injuries, dermabrasion can be performed to provide improvement. It is also a helpful adjunct to laser resurfacing when treating wrinkles, sun damage, or deeply pigmented areas of skin. The technique of dermabrasion involves using a small rotating burr to remove the outer layers of damaged/scarred skin. The resultant skin grows back smoother and tighter. Severe scars may require a second treatment 6-12 months after the initial treatment. Dermabrasion can be done alone or in combination with other cosmetic procedures.
A chemical peel involves the careful application of a carefully formulated solution to the skin, which later causes the top layer to separate and shed (like a blister), thereby removing with it the sun-damaged and wrinkled skin layers. New skin cells grow in their place, which are smoother, lighter, and tighter than the previously damaged skin.

Skin Resurfacing FAQs
How many treatment sessions each patient will need varies based on several key factors, including current skin condition and long-term goals. As your healing completes and the final results become apparent, Dr. Indeyeva will make a recommendation as to whether additional treatments will be necessary.
Recovering from skin resurfacing treatment depends largely on the type of treatment you receive. While individuals treating minor blemishes like fine lines with less invasive solutions like stem cell recruitment therapy usually recover without downtime, more invasive treatments require more time to heal. For these more extensive treatments, we recommend patients taking at least one week off from work in order to heal properly and comfortably.
Patients that undergo laser resurfacing, dermabrasion, or deep chemical peel will be evaluated daily for the first week to ensure a smooth healing process.
Patients that undergo stem cell recruitment therapy will be evaluated approximately 2 months following their final treatment session.
Tenderness and sensitivity to sunlight are common side effects of skin resurfacing. We recommend patients avoid direct sunlight for the first few weeks after their procedure and wear a strong sunscreen recommended by Dr. Indeyeva. Dr. Indeyeva will provide a customized regimen to facilitate healing and enhance your results.
Stem Cell Recruitment Facial patients should avoid washing their face or using any facial product for the first 24 hours following their procedure. After the first day, you may use a gentle soap to wash your face and apply a topical antioxidant and mineral sunscreen daily. At the 72-hour mark, patients can resume their normal skincare routine.
Surgical skin resurfacing results in a remarkable and long-term improvement, measured in years. Maintaining the results of your resurfacing treatment requires a robust home skincare regimen and regularly scheduled maintenance treatments. Dr. Indeyeva can help you create these important routines to ensure you enjoy your results well into the future.
