The Recovery Stages of a Rhinoplasty Procedure

Rhinoplasty, widely known as one of the most complex procedures in plastic surgery, simultaneously enhances cosmetic and functional aspects of the nose. When performed correctly, nose surgery can have life-changing effects on your self-esteem and can also correct imperfections that affect your ability to breathe freely.

If you are considering surgically improving your appearance through rhinoplasty, having realistic expectations is essential. Here’s an overview of what you can expect when recovering from nose surgery.

48 Hours After Your Procedure

Rhinoplasty is an outpatient procedure, which means we will send you home after determining you are medically stable enough to leave the surgical center. Please arrange for a responsible adult to drive you and stay with you for at least the first 48 hours after your surgery. This person can help you with household tasks and ensure you are comfortable as your healing process begins. Sleeping with your head elevated, avoiding strenuous activity and excess sun exposure, and being sure not to put any pressure on your face can help speed your recovery in this early stage.

One Week After Your Procedure

You can expect to wear a nasal splint for the first week following nose surgery to provide structural support as your nose heals. Tenderness, swelling, and bruising are typical parts of the initial recovery process and are not cause for alarm. While you can take light walks to improve your circulation, please wait to resume cardio and strength training workouts until Dr. Indeyeva clears you to do so.

Two Weeks After Your Procedure

By the second week, swelling and bruising will begin to fade, and you’ll probably be ready to return to work. However, you’ll still need to avoid heavy lifting, UV exposure, and challenging physical activity.

One to Three Months After Your Procedure

By the first month after your surgery, you should be comfortable enough to wear glasses and sunglasses again. As time goes by in your rhinoplasty recovery, you will notice your nose’s appearance continue to improve. You’ll see the surgical results taking shape as the swelling gradually resolves, and you can start resuming your typical daily routine as soon as Dr. Indeyeva approves you to do so.

Austin’s Leading Female Rhinoplasty Surgeon

Rhinoplasty allows you to improve your nose’s shape and size, enhancing your appearance by bringing your facial features into greater harmony. However, the decision to undergo nose surgery isn’t one you should take lightly. It’s crucial to do your homework and learn what you can expect before, during, and after this procedure.

Because every patient is different and no two rhinoplasty procedures are identical, predicting a specific rhinoplasty recovery timeline can be challenging, even for a Double Board-Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon like Dr. Indeyeva. However, having undergone a rhinoplasty herself a few years ago, Dr. Indeyeva brings a unique compassion and perspective to the surgical process.

At Facial Plastic Surgery of Austin, we want your rhinoplasty surgery and recovery to go as smoothly as possible. We’ll provide you with detailed instructions you can follow to ensure you are comfortable at every stage of your healing process.
