What Is the Recovery Time for a Neck Lift?

At Facial Plastic Surgery of Austin, we understand that thinking about elective surgery can be simultaneously exciting and overwhelming. That’s why Dr. Yula Indeyeva will work closely with you to ensure you know how to prepare for a procedure like a neck lift.

To be a more informed patient, here’s what you should know about neck lift surgery and its associated recovery timeline.

What Can a Neck Lift Do for You?

A gradual decline in collagen and elastin production is one of the earliest parts of the aging process. As your skin becomes thinner and less resilient, the fat pads in your midface will shift downward, leading to the appearance of jowls, a double chin, or a “turkey wattle.” These issues can be frustrating and detract from your appearance because they are difficult to conceal.

Many people notice their neck and jawline aging faster than their face because they have neglected to pay attention to their neck as part of their overall skin care routine. As a result, you may struggle with issues like the following:

  • Skin laxity and deeply etched wrinkles in the lower third of your face
  • Jowls and fatty deposits that blur the definition between your neck and jawline
  • A double chin that makes you look older and heavier than you are
  • Excess, sagging neck skin
  • Prominent neck muscle banding

Your Customized Austin Neck Lift

While Dr. Indeyeva will tailor your neck lift surgical plan based on your specific aesthetic concerns, the overall goal of every neck lift procedure is to eliminate the wrinkles caused by loose skin and reposition muscles and fatty tissues that tend to sag with age. You may also wish to combine your neck lift with other procedures, such as a facelift or eyelid lift, to achieve even more dramatic results.

In addition to thoroughly educating you about what to expect during and after this surgery, Dr. Indeyeva will make every effort to ensure you feel comfortable and confident about your decision to pursue plastic surgery. That includes providing you with an informational packet and detailed post-operative instructions, which we recommend reviewing before your surgery.

During neck lift recovery, most patients initially experience swelling, tightness, or soreness that will subside with time. You will need to plan some downtime for healing, but most people feel well enough to resume their regular daily activities after 10 days to two weeks. We recommend sleeping with your head elevated for six weeks after the procedure and avoiding strenuous exercise, alcohol, smoking, and excessive sun exposure for at least two weeks following surgery.

During your follow-up appointment, Dr. Indeyeva will evaluate your healing and provide direction on when you can return to your typical schedule.
